I love to decorate with banners, garlands, and buntings! They are so simple to string along a mantel or hang in a window, or add some extra fun to a birthday celebration by anchoring a mini bunting to the cake. So many possibilities…
Many stores sell pre-made banners these days. Last month, I found an adorable canvas shamrock bunting at Target for under $5. I have also purchased basic banners at Party City and added my own embellishments to personalize them. However, it is very simple to create one of your own design.
The idea for this bunting started with a stack of books I was going to donate to the local library. I thought it might be fun to create a bunting using the pages from one of the books.
I used the following supplies, most of which I already had in my craft room (isn’t it nice to use what you have on hand instead of going out to the craft store)…
string or twine
buttons
glue dots
coordinating card stock
double sided adhesive squares
pages from an old book
mini clothespins
bunny template (found online)
I started by using a pattern from my Hippity HOP banner to trace the shape on the book pages.
After the book pages were traced and cut, I traced the bunny template on the various colors of card stock and cut them. I love this card stock that I purchased for this project (yes, I did go to the craft store)…it has a slight texture of raised dots. It looks like small polka dots. Of course, I had to buy it!
After the bunnies were cut, I secured them on the book pages with the adhesive squares.
Then it was time to decorate those cute bunnies with some buttons. I used glue dots to secure the buttons in the middle of each bunny.
Now the final part…attach each bunny book page to a piece of string with two mini clothespins.
Now it’s ready to hang!
Such an easy way to decorate for spring! This idea could be changed to accommodate any occasion or holiday. I’m thinking pumpkins, hearts, and birthday cakes…
