Summer officially begins this Sunday…June 21st, although my kids have been calling it “summer” since the last day of school. It seems like such a short season, maybe because we try to fit in SO many activities in these warm months.
Last year, I hosted a party for my daughter and her friends to celebrate the season…SUMMER!
The idea for the decorations came from this invitation I found on Tiny Prints. I loved the bright mix of colors and the striped paper straws, which are so popular in entertaining right now.
I used the same colors (turquoise, hot pink, orange, and yellow) and style as the invitation when I created this sign using framed canvas, pompom poofs, and painted letters with small silver ornaments glued to them to give the effect of marquee lights…similar to the invitation.
Of course, this SUMMER party was held outside. Thank goodness the weather cooperated! The sign was hung on our backyard gazebo, and the food table was placed just in front of it.
I kept the food simple since the party was held after the dinner hour. The girls snacked on goldfish crackers, pretzels, and cupcakes. For drinks, there was pink lemonade which was served in these chalkboard disposable cups that I found on Etsy. Of course, I used striped paper straws with the cups.
The girls also roasted marshmallows in our firepit for s’more making.
Once the sun set and it was dark enough, the girls were treated to an outside movie night. The movie was projected on a tarp that was hanging on the back of our garage. The girls were asked to bring their own pillows, and I provided fleece blankets for everyone to lie down with while watching the movie, Frozen. Our popcorn cart provided more snacks as they watched the movie.
The girls enjoyed playing together, eating the fun treats, and watching the outdoor movie together…lots of summer fun!
It was such a fun night celebrating nothing more than SUMMER!
