G turned 15 this past weekend, and what a fun day we had celebrating her special day! She decided a few weeks ago that she did not want a party this year…you can imagine my disappointment since I LOVE to plan parties. She instead wanted to have a low-key celebration by taking her two closest friends to dinner. Easy enough, right?
Well, I wanted to plan a little extra something and surprise her. She had been begging to go to Ann Arbor (which is about 45 minutes from our house) all summer so she could check out the Graffiti Alley…but somehow we just never made it there.
So we decided to surprise her with a visit to Graffiti Alley followed by dinner at a rooftop restaurant in Ann Arbor. Her friends were in on the surprise, and they were a great help in keeping it a secret!
I must admit I wasn’t quite sure what this Graffiti Alley was all about…so I did a little research. The space was originally a mural created by an artist in 1999. It took 5 months to finish the 5,000 square foot mural. Within a few years, some of it had been painted over with graffiti. Today it is completely covered in graffiti, as we saw during G’s birthday celebration!
G and her friends had a lot of fun posing for pictures and taking pictures of their own.
Her sisters joined in on the fun!
Her older sister even brought a friend to share in the fun!
Leave it to her younger sister to find a place to climb!
The birthday girl herself…
We left a few “marks” of our own!
Time for a group picture!
The day wouldn’t be complete without a family selfie!
I know G had a great day with her friends and family celebrating her 15th birthday, and I discovered that sometimes a non-traditional celebration can be just as exciting as a party…and a lot less work!
Happy birthday to my graffiti-loving girl!

Oh, yes! She is quite the character…that’s the role of the youngest, right? Keeps us all laughing!
