When I was growing up, my mother always decorated our mantel for the various holidays. Of course, there were the white lights, colorful ribbons, an evergreen wreath, sprigs of holly, pine roping, and bright red berries at Christmas time. She went beyond the typical Christmas decorations and created special displays throughout the year, also. I have carried on this tradition within my own home by decorating our mantel for Valentine’s Day, Easter, summer, Halloween and Christmas. With Easter just a few weeks away, I decided it was time to “dress” our mantel for the holiday!
I found this adorable wicker bunny at Pier One Imports, and the inspiration for my mantle came from that.
I started by hanging this chalkboard style ‘Hippity HOP’ sign on the wall above the mantel. I added a pink chevron printed ribbon to the hook for a touch of spring color. Then I arranged my cute bunny and a grapevine carrot basket (also from Pier One Imports), along with some colorful wooden eggs on the center of my mantel.
The topiaries and clock are permanent fixtures on the mantel, no matter what season…so I interspersed some eggs around them.
Next came my favorite part of decorating the mantel…the banner! I love creating banners and garlands to tie into the theme of whatever I am decorating! I decided to model the banner after the ‘Hippity HOP’ sign on the wall.
I used the following supplies…chalkboard banner paper, chalk ink pen, natural cord, spring colored pompoms, glue dots, and scissors. I started by writing the words in a similar manner as the font on the sign.
I mimicked the leaf on the sign as a spacer between the two words.
Once the words were written, I strung the individual letters on the natural cord.
I thought it needed more color, so I tied a small piece of cord between each letter and attached a pompom (pink, lavender, yellow or green) to the ends with a glue dot. The colors work well with the colors of the wooden eggs.
Finally, I hung the banner just below my mantel. I used 3M Command clear decorating clips to secure the banner in place.
I love how it looks…so inviting and festive!
Hippity HOP…Easter’s on its way!!!

Great minds think a like! I too decorate the mantel all year. The one in the living room has lights on a timer so I do not have to remember to run down at midnight and turn them off! Bunny is cute!
