I’ve always said that I’m amazed at what a coat of fresh paint can do for a room. It just totally freshens up the space! That’s exactly what my laundry room needed recently…some freshening up.
But first, let me give you a bit of history on my laundry room. Our house is close to 100 years old, AND the laundry room is in the basement…that means it can be a bit dark and dingy. When we purchased our house almost nine years ago, the unfinished concrete floor was painted a dark red color. The ceiling was “open,” with lots of exposed pipes and wires. There was one small light, if you could even call it that…it was a lightbulb screwed into the ceiling with a cord attached that you pulled to turn it on/ off. We lived with it like this for a few years. After all, it’s a basement laundry room…no one really sees it but me.
Well, that was exactly my point when I presented a few simple improvement ideas to my husband…with three girls, I spend A LOT of time doing laundry and I should like the room and feel comfortable in it.
So we had a drop ceiling installed, along with better lighting and some much needed shelving and cabinets. The walls were painted, as well as the floor…the floor was even painted with a faux rug design. I loved my new laundry room!
That was almost four years ago. Laundry rooms get A LOT of use, and mine was starting to feel dingy again and in need of some refreshing. Like I said, it’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do…so the walls were given a coat or two of white paint and I painted the floor black (that faux rug had so many chips in it that it was time to do something different). I purchased a new rug…a real one, this time. I also painted the art table that we keep in the room for messy projects. It had seen better days, and I thought some paint would improve the looks of it.
So I’m loving my laundry room once again!
Sometimes all it takes is a fresh coat of paint…
