About a year ago, I hosted my first Crafternoon event…an afternoon of crafting, food, and friendship. It all started with THIS project. Over the course of the next several months, I offered the opportunity to create a few more projects. As we entered the final month of 2017, I hosted my last one for the year.
We spent the afternoon creating a boxwood wreath, using fresh cut boxwood stems and an embroidery hoop. As always, it was a fun time with everyone sitting around my dining room table putting their creativity to work, with old friends talking and catching up, as well as meeting new friends.
I love setting up for these Crafternoons! I try to have all the supplies needed for the project set out at each person’s place at the table. If that means cutting the ribbon ahead of time to make things easier, then I have that prepared. I also like to make a fun placecard that goes along with the theme or style of the day’s project. I think it’s the teacher in me that likes to have placecards for everyone! Of course, the participants are always welcome to move around if they so wish. For this one, I folded white card stock in half, hand stamped the names on them with red ink, and taped sprigs of boxwood of them with red washi tape.
Once everyone was settled and instructions were given (I’ll post the simple how-to to make this wreath in a separate post tomorrow…so check back then), the creating began! It is always fun to see how everyone takes a project and puts their “mark” on it.
Of course, you can’t have a Crafternoon without lunch! The menu included pomegranate, spinach & pear salad, Zuppa Toscana soup, crusty French bread…and for dessert holiday M&M cookie bars!
By the time the afternoon was ending, the sun was coming out (after a drizzly, dreary morning) and everyone was happy to be taking home their new wreath! I’ve had a few friends text me pictures of their wreaths hanging in their homes, and they all look so great!
So if you’d like to try creating one of your own, remember I’ll be sharing the instructions tomorrow…
